Damco Establishes Miami as Hub to Latin America


Damco, a global logistics company, has launched its Americas Bridge service, which uses Miami as a hub to either consolidate less-than-container load (LCL) shipments from various U.S. points for full container shipping to multiple countries in Latin America—including Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Chile—or to ship LCL directly from Miami with weekly options.

Analysts and industry experts suggest that air cargo rates have hit bottom, as shippers ask, “will the capacity be there when we need it?”

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) revised its airline financial forecast for 2009 to a global loss of $9 billion today, noting that it is nearly twice as high as the association’s March estimate of a $4.7 billion loss.
